Aetna International, an international health benefits provider, is expanding in Canada by offering services for employers with Canadians traveling in and out of the country.

“I am delighted to be spearheading Aetna International’s expansion in the Canadian market. Our fully compliant international health insurance plans provide tailored cover for expatriate clients, whether coming into Canada or moving abroad,” says Carrie Chapman, country manager for Canada, Aetna International.

Opening offices and recruiting staff

The company’s office will be in Toronto, though other offices are expected to open throughout the year. Aetna is also actively recruiting staff for key roles.

The insurer’s healthcare plans provide coverage for everyone, regardless if they are covered by a provincial plan or not. They provide tailored cover for groups on a direct-sale basis, through brokers, or other intermediaries. International members have access to medical services in Canada through Aetna International’s partner in Ottawa, Cowan Insurance Group. Aetna members also have access to over a million providers in the US and 120,000 providers in the rest of the world.

Strong historical relationship

“Canada is a natural step for Aetna International as we look to grow and develop the organisation around the world,” says the company’s President and CEO, Richard di Benedetto. “Our strong historical relationship with the Canadian health insurance industry has been evidenced by the warm and positive welcome received from the brokers we are talking to.”
